Dr M V Shetty College of Nursing , celebrated its tridecennial year on 1st September 2017 at Hotel Deepa Comforts Mangalore. The tridecennial year was celebrated in the form of organising one day National conference on Edu- vision 2017 : creating hash tag in teaching and learning.
Faculty Development Workshop-2017
A unique faculty development workshop is organised by Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust colleges on 31-06-2017 and 01-07-2017 at college auditorium. The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr.Malini N.Hebbar, Associate Professor Department of English St. Agnes College Mangalore. Dr.Hima Urmila Shetty, Trustee Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust presided over the function and enlighten the program by presidential address. The formal function winded up with vote of thanks by Mrs.Kavyashree, Lecturer,Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Nursing. Dr.Malini N.Hebbar, Associate Professor Department of English St. Agnes College Mangalore and Ms.VidyaShenoy Entrepreneur and Life Skill Coach were the Resource persons.
College of Nursing organised a Farewell programme to the outgoing UG and PG students on 25-08-2017 in college auditorium. The Programme was inaugurated by the Chief guestDr.YathikumaraSwamyGowda, Principal Alvas College of Nursing Moodabidri. Health Talk Programme-2017
Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Nursing in association with OBG and Paediatric department organized role play and health talk on Breast feeding on 5/8/17 at Lady Goschen Hospital Mangaluru. DrPoornima, Senior specialist in obstetrics and gynecology inaugurated the programme at 10am. Prof Deepa Danieal HOD dept of PaediatricNsg , MrsHemalatha G., HOD dept of OBG Nsg , faculties Mrs. Divya, Mr. Roshan and 3rd year , MSc Nursing students and nearly 15 antenatal mothers were present.
Nutrition practical programme -2017
DR.M.V.Shetty CON, had organised nutrition practical programme for I year BSc ,I year PCBSC & I year GNM students on 10.04.2017. Task was given to students to prepare different Kinds of therapeutic and balanced diet under the guidance of Mrs.Savitha&Ms.Shamala K.S. Prof.ChristeenaSajuVarkey and Prof.Deepa Daniel were the judges for the program.
VANAMAHOTSAVA CELEBRATION -2017
Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing, NSS Unit organized Vanamahotsava celebration at D. K.Jilla PanchayatGovernment Primary School Panjimogaru on 05-07-2017 at 9.30am. Prof. Deepa Danieal, Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing, Mrs.Jayalakshmi Headmistress of the School, NSS Programme Co-ordinatorMrs.Hemalatha G. HOD Department of OBG Nursing, NSS Volunteers and the faculties of College of Nursing and the school participated in the programme. 25 sapplings were planted in and around the school.

Sr.Janet D Souza, Chief nursing Officer, Father Muller Hospital Mangaluru was the chief guest, Prof.ChristeenaSajuVarkey, Principal and Prof.DeepaDanieal graced the occasion.
Regional Level Symposium-2017
The Faculties of Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing organised a regional level Symposium on “Nurses; A Voice to Lead Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” on 26-05-2017 in college Auditorium. Mrs.Hemalatha G. Head of Dept of OBG Nursing was the Moderator and Lecturers Mrs.Divya, Ms.Denitha and Ms.Stephy Thomas were the resource persons.
Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing organised Extra Curricular Competitions “CON ZEAL-2017” on behalf of Nurses Day from 22nd to 26th May 2017 in College Auditorium. Students have actively participated in various completions and won many prizes.
Observation of World Health Day 2017
On Observation of World Health Day 2017 the College of Nursing has organised a Talk on the theme “Depression – Let’s Talk” in the lecture hall on 08-04-2017. Mr. SubrahmanyaNayak, Associate Professor and Mrs.Kavyashree Lecturer from Department of Psychiatric Nursing has enlighten the students about the importance of the day and delivered the content on Depression about its Relevance, Impact and Management.
Observation of International Women’s Day 2017
On the eve of women’s day, NSS unit of Dr. M. V Shetty College of nursing Mangalore had organized one day workshop on topic “Women Empowerment in Digital India” on 09.03.2017. The theme of the programme was “Be Bold for Change”. The chief guest Smt. C S Vijayalakshmi, D.G.M., Canara Bank Mangalore, inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural speech. Principal Prof. ChristeenaSaju Varkey, Ms. Swathi K, Ms. Mega Shetty were present for the inauguration of the programme. Sessions were held by Ms. Mega Shetty and Ms. Swathi K. on Digital India Movements, The staffs and the students were benefited by the sessions.
Observation of World TB day 2017
World TB day observed in Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing on 24-03-2017 with a seminar on the theme “Unite to End TB” by final year B.Sc.(N) students in college auditorium. Students have presented the different aspects of Tuberculosis and WHO initiatives to end TB.

Dr .M.V Shetty College of Nursing established in the year 1987 is the first nursing institute to be started under private sector in the state of Karnataka offering programmes in nursing science aiming to produce qualified nursing professionals who;
The different courses in Nursing sciences are B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) was started during the academic year 1987-88, the B.Sc Nursing (Post Certificate) was started during the academic year 1989-90 and the M.Sc. Nursing started during the academic year 1992-93. All these courses were initially affiliated to Mangalore University and subsequently during the academic year 1996-97 all these courses are transferred to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
Duration of the Programme:
The course of study leading to B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) or Bachelor of Nursing (Basic) degree comprises of four academic years including clinical training of 24 weeks.
Eligibility for Admission:
Pass in 10+2 or Pre-University examination conducted by Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with English as one of the subjects and physics, chemistry and biology as optional subjects provided the candidate has secured not less than45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. (In case of SC/ST candidates the minimum is 40%)

B.Sc. – Post Certificate – in Nursing
Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is a broad based education aimed to build upon the skills and competencies acquired at the Diploma in Nursing level. The course is intended to enable the graduates to assume responsibility as professional competent nurses and midwives at basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. Make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and manager in clinical/public health settings.
Duration of the Programme:
The course of study shall be for two academic years from the date of commencement of term notified by the university.

The candidate seeking admission must:
No candidate who is above 48 years of age on 31st December of the year of admission shall be eligible for the course.
M.Sc. – Nursing:
The Master of Science in Nursing programme (M.Sc. Nursing) is offered in Dr. M.V.Shetty Institute of Health Sciences and this course is built upon Bachelors curriculum in Nursing recognized by Indian Nursing Council.The programme of M.Sc. Nursing prepares nurses for leadership positions in Nursing and Health fields. They can function as specialist nurses practitioners, consultants, educators, administrators and investigators in wide variety of professional setting in meeting the national prioritise and changing needs of the society. The programme prepares nursing graduates who are professionally equipped, creative, self directed and socially motivated to effectively deal with day-to-day problems within the existing constraints and act as an agent of social change. The programme also encourages accountability and commitment to life long learning which fosters improvement of quality care.

The course of study for M.Sc. Nursing is extended for a period of two academic years

Specializations and Intake:
Six students in each of the following specialty. Total: 30 per year
Students studying in different courses offered in the colleges managed by Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust have been provided with good facilities like Hostels for comfortable living, Transportation to commute from the hostels and clinics to the colleges, Sports and Games for recreation. The other facilities include a canteen, library and the computer centre. All these facilities are listed as follows:
Hostels Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls except for Dr. M. V. Shetty Institute of Technology. Hostel is compulsory for girls till the completion of their course. Hostel is compulsory for boys in the first year. Altogether there are six hostels maintained by the Trust accommodating about 900 students.
All the hostels have spacious rooms. All the hostel inmates are provide with breakfast, lunch and dinner and have the choice of both north and South Indian foods. The Trust takes care to serve the students with hygienic food and to keep the kitchen and the dining halls clean and tidy. The concept of the Trust regarding the hostel is to make the student feel a home away from home.
Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust maintains a fleet of vehicles including several buses to transport students to their respective study centers and to their respective hostels. The transport facility is also provided to students and the staff of the colleges from different places of Mangalore and surrounding area. The buses are also provided to the students for University related works, fests and for sports and cultural competitions held in different colleges.
Sports and Games Facility
The Colleges managed by Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust has a Physical Education Department managed by the Director of Physical Education and provides Sports Facilities like shuttle badminton court, volley ball court and a kabbadi court. Indoor sports facilities for Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess are also provided. A Gymnasium and Conditioning Exercise Unit are provided in the Physical Education Department.
All these facilities are regularly used by the students and staff of the colleges to keep good health and fitness.
The students of the colleges managed by the Trust regularly participate in inter- collegiate tournaments in various sports and games events both within the University area and outside the University and won several prizes.The physical Education Department of the College regularly organizes Inter Collegiate competitions in various sports events and Inter College Tournaments in games events generally in the month of January every year. These competitions and tournaments are recognized by the affiliating Universities and involvement of students from many colleges are encouraged.
Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust colleges Campus has a spacious Canteen facility for the benefit of staff and students of the colleges and it is run by an experienced Caterer of repute. The Canteen is having a modern kitchen equipped with facilities for hygienic food preparation.
Vegetarian and non vegetarian foods, soft drinks, ice creams and snacks are provided in the canteen at nominal cost. North Indian and South Indian dishes are also provided in the Canteen for the choice of students.
The college Library is spacious and is open to the students and staff of the college, who have library membership cards. Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during working days. Other facilities provided in the library are photocopy facility and information search facility which has been provided at the computer center. The library is equipped with about 6000 volumes of books related to the subjects tought in the different courses run in the colleges. The library also subscribes about 20 national and international journals. It also has about 500 back volumes of the journals.
The Computer Center was started in the year 1994 at the College Campus by the Trust and is named as Dr. M.V.Shetty Trust Computer Center, to impart training programme on basic knowledge on computers and its applications to students, faculty and the administrative staff of the colleges run by the Trust.
The Computer Center has all the relevant software like HELINET Network System, MEDLINE and PUBMED databases, Organization website, MS-Office, Microsoft.NET, Visual Studio, Adobe Premier, Photoshop and different types of Statistical Packages. The Computer Center is being upgraded from time to time to provide the best possible computational infrastructure to the students and staff of the colleges.
Some of the services provided by the Computer center are Internet browsing, Email services, digital versions of bibliographic databases, published papers and theses, internet searches on specific subjects. The Computer center also provides software for easy storage of internal marks and generation of certificates etc. The Center also maintains facilities for LCD projections for Journal Club Meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
The ATM of the Corporation Bank is housed in the premises of the building of Dr. M.V.Shetty Trust Colleges at Vidayanagar, Kavoor, Mangalore. This facility can be availed by the student and staff of the colleges.
National Service Scheme Several units have been sanctioned to various colleges managed by Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust by the Government of Karnataka through the affiliated Universities. This scheme provided an opportunity to the students to participate in the service activities. The college has adopted one of the villages close to the campus under this scheme and students are striving for an all-round development of this village.
Arts and Sports:
Our students always witness many achievements in the field of cultural and sports. Students also participate in RGUHS intercollegiate literary and cultural competition enthusiastically. Faculty and students are actively participating in the cultural program conducted by MMCA, Gitanjali.
Intercollegiate cultural and sports competitions of Dr. M.V.Shetty Trust Colleges are held in every academic year. It is an occasion for the students to prove their talents and they come out successfully with number of prizes.
Seminar Workshops and conferences:
Informative and interesting state and national level Seminar, workshops and conferences are organized periodically by the college.
International Day Celebrations :
The college organizes and participates in various international day celebrations like Nurses day, World Health Day, World Heart day, world Diabetic day, World AIDS Day, Breast feeding week etc. with attractive exhibitions, variety programs and competitions.
The faculty updates their knowledge by attending and organizing various in-service education programmes.
Celebrations of the special occasion:
Special occasions like lamp lighting, fresher’s day, college annual day, graduation ceremony, farewell functions etc are conducted regularly.
The institution has adopted Panjimoguru village and provide regular free health services to the people of the village. We also conduct health clinic, thrice a week in Thannirbaavi, which is free of cost.
We also conduct mass health education for the community people with an aim of upliftment of health of the people. During the posting in community areas we maintain a good interpersonal relationship and find out the health problems in the family and plan the intervention according to priority.
At the end of the community health nursing posting, based on the need of community, we give mass health education on the topics such as AIDS, Malaria, Filaria, Family planning, Environmental Sanitation, Tuberculosis, Diabetic mellitus etc.
To make the health education more attractive and interesting, we include role plays, film shows, exhibition, poster presentations etc. during the posting we also render services in the Primary Health Centers (PHC’s), schools and assist in immunization and health check-ups. We also survey the community area allotted and identify the health related problems.
